Preventing LOH in BRCA mutation carriers

Website
GRANTEE
Maria Jasin, Ph.D.
POSITION
Professor, Lab Head
INSTITUTION
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Dr. Jasin’s project to identify factors that influence the Loss of Heterozygosity (LOH) was initially funded in 2019. Based on the significant progress made in the project, the project was granted additional funding to continue to phase 2 in 2021 and phase 3 in 2024. During phase 3, they will study allele loss under BRCA wildtype and heterozygous conditions. These studies will provide a comparative mechanistic understanding of LOH at BRCA under normal and carrier conditions. This mechanistic understanding will facilitate development of strategies to prevent LOH and thereby prevent cancer development in high-risk individuals.
